Facebook Messenger ads gone global
Did you know that more than 1.2 billion people use Facebook Messenger every month? As a social advertiser, this gives you a huge opportunity to expand your social campaigns’ reach and gain more results.
We wrote about Facebook Messenger Bots the other month when it was only available to a few advertisers, telling you all about the benefits and first use cases. From now on, Messenger ads will be available to all advertisers around the world, with ads appearing directly in the home tab of the Messenger mobile app.
How does it work?
People will see Messenger ads in their home tab of the Messenger mobile app. As soon as someone clicks on an ad, he or she gets sent to the destination you, the advertiser, has chosen such as your business’ website or an existing Messenger conversation. You can create Messenger ads both via Ads Manager and Power Editor. Messenger ads are in fact just an additional placement option such as Audience Networks or Facebook News Feed. As an advertiser, you can use these ads for Traffic and Conversion objectives but more options will roll out soon.
3 ways to use Facebook Messenger ads
You can use Facebook Messenger for three advertising solutions:
- Regular Messenger ads
- Click-to-Messenger ads
- Sponsored Messages
1 Regular Messenger ads
Once you scroll down in the home tab of the Facebook Messenger, your ad will get revealed. When people click on your ad, they will be sent to either your website or a Messenger conversation. This is what it looks like:

2 Click-to-Messenger ads
Let’s say you have an Image, Video or Carousel ad placed on Facebook News Feed or Instagram Feed. When people click on your call-to-action button, they will automatically end up in a Messenger conversation with you - interacting and engaging with your brand.
3 Sponsored ads
You can also use sponsored ads in Messenger to re-engage with people through conversations. Let’s say you had a conversation with a prospect the other week about your recent products. You can then target sponsored messages directly to that person you had a conversation with in Messenger.
Why should you care?
The fact that Messenger ads are now available globally, gives you a new tool for creating meaningful connections with customers and prospects. Messenger ads can help you to reach your existing and potential customers when they are already active and engaged with your brand and business. So try it out, start testing and enjoy the new opportunities of Facebook advertising. You can get started via Facebook’s Advertiser Help Center. Let us know how you get on about.
